Last month, our family took a short road trip to Ovid to try the wood fired pizza I learned so much about in our Twinterview with The Copper Oven. From where we live, Ovid is smack dab in the middle of nowhere, but it was well worth the trip! We tried both pizzas on the menu and a special wood fired dessert.
As the crow flies, Ovid is only about 10 miles from Penn Yan. Thanks to Seneca Lake though, it’s a much longer trip by car. Now, most folks wouldn’t drive 45 minutes around Seneca Lake just to get pizza. But between Penn Yan and Ovid, there are a couple very interesting, and very strange things to see. One, white deer at the Seneca Army Depot, of which we only spotted one. Secondly, Willard Psychiatric Center, which lives up to your imagination as being the creepiest place in the Finger Lakes, and perhaps on this Earth. There’s a lot of history there, and it’s worth reading about before you drive by.
One of the questions I asked during my Twinterview with The Copper Oven was whether the place was kid friendly or not. Being a part of a winery, you never know! Learning that kids receive a wood fired s’more upon request was a bonus. Sure enough, Lillie got hers and even shared it with me!
