Oh hi! It’s me again.
One of the reasons I started this blog was to inspire and influence myself and my family to go out and explore all that the Finger Lakes has to offer.
My goal is to avoid squandering our time in the most beautiful part of NY state doing the same old things and traveling the same old roads.
So if you’re reading this, there’s a chance I may inspire and influence you to do that same. Right?
But I need your help.
I have been wanting to make a Finger Lakes Bucket List for a long time now, and never got around to it.
I’m using Bucket List plugin which makes it pretty easy to keep add, edit, and cross items off.
You’ll see there are already some things I’ve added and crossed off.
These are things I’ve thought of off the top of my head. Some of them, I’ve already done, but didn’t take photos or really think about writing about here, so it’s a good excuse to do them again.
I’ve ordered things by lake– I want to be able to embed each bucket list in posts and pages that are related, so I’ve categorized them that way.
So, here’s where you come in.
What should I add?
I probably won’t add every single suggestion to my list :) but I know you’ve seen and done some awesome stuff here in the Finger Lakes and you’re dying to tell me about them.
Let me know your suggestions in the comments, or on Facebook, Twitter, or via email. I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Here goes:

Anything for Lake Canandaigua?
Bike around it. Swim it snowshoe in the winter?
Visit the Ontario county historical museum.
Just wondering
Visit Squaw Island on Canandaigua lake, North end, where squats and children were put during attacks in the area. Also Bear Hill holds more Indian Legends. Near there is a must “spook hill” an optical illusion of sorts where a car put in neutral goes backwards.
Thank you Lori! I will definitely add Squaw Island to the list, and Bare Hill too. We went to spook hill last year – I made a video! http://inthefingerlakes.com/explore/finger-lakes-fun/spook-hill-middlesex-yates-county-ny-video/ it’s legit and spooky! Thank you!
Oops I. Last comment should be Squaws..not squats.. crazy spellchecker
Do they have tours of Squaw Island and when? I’ve walked the pier & have seen the island & the sign noting it’s history, but haven’t been on the island. Also, Canandaigua Lake has the Cdga Lady cruises.
Meredith- how about walking through the Glen @ Watkins Glen State Park? Maybe wait until the girls are older. Seneca Lake has cruises out of Watkins Glen & other areas as well. I’d love to ride on the schooner ship someday. The kids might enjoy the spray park @ Seneca Lake State Park &/or the Roseland Water Park in Cdga.
The Balloon Festival held on Labor Day Wkend in Dansville is quite a sight to see.
In the past, there’s been a Santa train each winter which I believe starts in Waterloo. It’s held by Finger Lakes Railroad but might have been cancelled last year. I’m not sure re: this year. You could ck their website.
Sonnenberg Gardens in Cdga has lots of activities throughout the year including Christmas light displays. The formal gardens are beautiful!!
Cayuga Lake: MacKenzie-Childs Pottery, the Aurora Inn, Wells College, King Ferry Winery, Long Point Winery, Pumpkin Hill Bistro, The Plantations at Cornell University, Buttermilk Falls, Taughannock Falls, Hangar Theater, The Science Center, Museum of the Earth, Montezuma Winery, Route 89 Amish Market, The Dear Head Inn, Wolffy’s Grill & Marina, Cayuga Lake State Park.
Thanks Lori!
